You Are My Only

Songwriter's night was originally supposed to be on Valentine's Day, but was moved to the 15th. In keeping with the sentiments of Valentine's Day, I decided to write a love song.

For a few days, I jotted down a line or two, here and there, and finally had enough little bits to work with. Kind of an unusual way for me to write a song, but then again, I have no real reason to write a love song either, other than as a songwriting challenge. So, I did it.

Writing a love song is no easy thing. There are zillions of them out there. I listened to a few songs in the "piano ballads" category on YouTube to find the feeling that I wanted. Is my song any good? Not really. But it's a love song and I finished it. We'll see what the other songwriters have to say, although they're very kind and not likely to say that it sucks.

This 2017 challenge is just about writing songs, even though it doesn't come very easily any more, and my magic flowing poetic voice doesn't seems to flow any more. I don't think in rhythm or rhyme very much anymore either. I guess this is what happens to many people: the creative muse dries up. Writer's block.
